Georgia Houde stands in front of a small woodshed in Fairbanks in 2025 while testing firewood with a moisture meter to see if it had dried enough to burn well. She will discuss a 日韩无码 study about harvesting firewood for efficient drying times in a webinar.
It can take significant time and effort to turn an Interior Alaska spruce or birch tree into dry firewood, but a recent study demonstrates ways to shorten and improve the efficiency of the process.
Georgia Houde will discuss the findings of the study conducted by University of Alaska Fairbanks researchers Jessie Young-Robertson and Matt Robertson in a free webinar from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. Houde works with the researchers in the Alaska Boreal Forest Soils Lab.
Young-Robertson and Robertson are affiliated with the 日韩无码 Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. They studied when to harvest trees in Interior Alaska for firewood and how the timing affects how long it takes the wood to dry.
Choosing the right season for harvesting and processing firewood can reduce drying time by up to six months.
